Charlotte Geater
Charlotte Geater (2008, English) was a winner in the Foyle Young Poets Competition in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She was also runner-up in the Christopher Tower Competition in 2006 and 2008 – all before taking up her place at the Hall.
Charlotte regularly attended Creative Writing Workshops at Teddy Hall and won the Graham Midgley poetry prize on two occasions. She was a founding member of, and later a submissions editor, for Pomegranate Magazine, and her poems were included in anthologies Stop Sharpening Your Knives (3) & (4) (Eggbox, 2009 & 2010) and The Mays XVII & XVIII (Varsity Publications).
Charlotte is currently studying part-time for an MA at the University of Kent, where she won the T.S. Eliot poetry prize in 2012, and she works in publishing. One of her recent poems appears in Catechism, an anthology for Pussy Riot, to which 110 poets donated their work in solidarity with the imprisoned protest group. As the editors say, this anthology is “a cornucopia of approaches to freedom and to feminism”. You can hear Charlotte reading her poem on YouTube; and you can also read some here.
Charlotte recently read at the V&A Reading Rooms as part of the Selected Poems series; and she returned to the Hall in May 2013 to give a poetry reading alongside Amy Blakemore and Jude Cowan Montague. She appears in the new Stop Sharpening Your Knives; and her first pamphlet is forthcoming.
