Joseph Gallivan

Joseph Gallivan (1984, English) is a journalist, editor and novelist.

After graduating, Joseph lived in London for 10 years, emigrated to the USA in 1994 and became a US citizen in 2008.

He worked for The Independent from 1989-1994 as a freelance writer. He was music critic contributing full-length features on contemporary music artists, interviews with bands, reviews of concerts, and the paper’s national live music guide.

From 1997 to 2001 he lived in New York City where he covered technology on the Business desk of the New York Post. There he published a total of 774 stories. Since returning to Portland Oregon he was a feature writer for the Portland Tribune, writing 627 stories in nearly six years covering arts and general interest.  After a freelance period in the Great Recession he returned to the Tribune in 2014 to report Portland-area business news, where he remains as of 2017.

His writing has also appeared in The Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph, New Media Creative, The International Herald Tribune, Hamptons Magazine and Oregon Humanities.

Joseph has won numerous Society of Professional Journalists writing awards and he has also published two novels: Oi, Ref: A Novel about Love, Hate, and Football (1998) and England All Over (2000).
