The Politics of Chocolate

Date & time:
Tuesday, 6 February 2018 - 6:30pm
Location:
The Old Dining Hall

Hall alumna and author Dr. Kristy Leissle brings you an evening of chocolate and politics. Kristy will share insights from her new book, Cocoa, published this month by Polity. She will discuss geopolitics and personal politics in the cocoa and chocolate industries, using stories and images from her fieldwork on farms and in factories around the world. For the experiential learners, this event will include a chocolate tasting, thanks to the generous support of Divine Chocolate.

Kristy Leissle, PhD, has been researching, writing, and teaching about the politics, economics, and cultures of cocoa and chocolate since 2004. She is affiliate faculty in African Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, Cultural Specialist for National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, and Cocoa Marketer for the UK development-through-trade charity Twin & Twin Trading. Kristy matriculated at Teddy Hall in 1996. She has loved chocolate all her life.

This event is now fully booked. If you would like to be added to a waiting list please contact emily.ding@seh.ox.ac.uk
