Keir Starmer QC sworn in as Honorary Hall Fellow

Monday, 23 April 2012

St Edmund Hall is delighted to welcome Keir Starmer QC, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and head of the Crown Prosecution Service, as an Honorary Fellow of the College. Keir (pictured right) was sworn in at the recent meeting of the Governing Body on 19 April.

Both the former and current DPP are Honorary Fellows of the Hall. Lord (Kenneth) Macdonald of River Glaven QC, who read PPE in 1971 and accepted Fellowship in November 2011, was DPP from 2003 to 2008.

Keir has introduced Core Quality Standards within the CPS and a robust quality assurance framework to ensure that all prosecutors provide a high quality service to the public. He has overseen the merger of the Crown Prosecution Service and the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office, and has had to handle a number of complex and sensitive cases including those in which members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords have been charged with criminal offences.
