Gill Powell

01865 279003

Gill joined the Hall in March 2002 as PA to the then Principal, Professor Michael Mingos FRS. This move to higher education was a departure from her work in the commercial sector, where she had worked variously as an internal auditor for the Marketing team of Bentley Motors, sales manager for a national cleaning company, PA to senior executives in health care, logistics and – whilst her two daughters were little – Office Manager for the family building company.

Gill organises two big College lectures each year: the A B Emden Lecture which is given by an eminent historian, and the Philip Geddes Memorial Lecture which is given by a prominent journalist on the state of print & broadcast journalism today. She also organises welcome drinks parties for the College’s Freshers to meet the Principal and other senior members of staff; administers the annual St Edmund Feast (in mid-November) and assists with stewardship of the Hall’s greatest asset, its alumni.

When not managing the Principal’s complex diary and correspondence, Gill dreams of building her own home, something she and her first husband did in 1992 and for which they won a national prize sponsored by The Daily Telegraph. It’s no secret that ‘Grand Designs’ is one of her favourite TV shows!
