Assistant Librarian (Part-Time)

St Edmund Hall invites applications for the position of Assistant Librarian to assist the College Librarian in the smooth running of all aspects of the Library collections and services and the administrative reader-orientated and bibliographical tasks of a busy academic library.

The Library plays a key role in the College’s academic life and is a major resource for teaching and learning.  It is fully automated and all existing stock and new additions are catalogued onto OLIS (The Oxford Libraries Information System), which utlises Aleph Library Management software.  

The Library has developed a working collection of over 40,000 volumes in all the subjects studied at the College.  The College’s historic collection, in the Old Library, is the focus of ongoing cataloguing, conservation and evaluation.

The Assistant Librarian's responsibilities include the cataloguing, classification and processing of new books, managing the desk, ensuring the Library rules are observed, deputising for the Librarian and supporting them in administering overdue reports and charges and monitoring the security system.  

The successful candidate will have a good first degree in any subject, excellent IT, communication and written skills, flexibility, accuracy, be able to priortise and have a familiarity with data protection and copyright. 

In return, the College offers a competitive salary, free meals whilst on duty, pension scheme and an annual leave entitlement of 28 days inclusive of bank holidays plus an additional 8-10 days per year at Easter and Christmas when the College is closed.  The College also offers a subsidised bus pass scheme, cycle to work loan scheme and season ticket loan.
