St Edmund Hall Research Expo 2017

The second St Edmund Hall Research Expo took place on the afternoon of Saturday 25 February 2017. Once again, the College showcased the wide diversity of research being undertaken by its students and academics - from undergraduates to Fellows - via sessions of short 'Teddy Talks' (all aimed at a non-specialist audience, these will be available to watch online very soon!) and three rooms of interactive displays and exhibits.

The Expo was open to all members of the College community: members of all three common rooms, staff and alumni (plus their families / guests).

Timetable

12:30-3pm - explore the Lab, the Salon and the Studio

  • Interactive displays and experiments in the Lab (Doctorow Hall) - with Mathematical, Physical & Life Sciences and Medical Sciences focus
  • Hands-on demonstrations and exhibits in the Salon (Old Dining Hall) - with a Humanities and Social Sciences theme
  • 'Interim' - an art show in which our undergraduate Fine Art students respond to pictures by modern masters in the Hall's collection - in the Studio (SCR coffee room)

12:30-1:30pm - Teddy Talks I and II

1:45-2:45pm - Teddy Talks III and IV

Each session of Teddy Talks included four short (10 minute) accessible talks from SCR and MCR members about an aspect of their research, along similar lines to TED talks. Talks took place in the Chapel and Pontigny Room. Find the full details of topics and speakers here.

3:15pm - Pitch Your Research challenge final (Wolfson Hall)

The final of our new 'Pitch Your Research' competition for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Wolfson Hall. Six finalists attempted to explain their research project in just three minutes each.

4-5pm - Teddy Hall round-table debate (Wolfson Hall)

A panel, drawn from all three common rooms discussed the topic: '2016: What does it mean for Higher Education in the UK?'
