Full Time

This is an exciting time to be joining St Edmund Hall as we embark on an exciting building project to deliver a new building creating further modern rooms with their own facilities. Our team help to build, manage and maintain the areas that our students, staff and Fellows are proud to be part of.

You will need the confidence and ability to fault find, install, maintain, repair and replace associated fixtures and fittings as well as providing a reactive service.  You will ensure that all doors, windows, locks and the general internal and external fabric of the buildings across our sites are maintained to the highest standards.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to join our on-call rota to cover emergencies outside of normal operating times.  The call-out duty also attracts a generous stand-by allowance to top up your base salary.

The appointee will be an experienced Carpenter qualified to City and Guilds or NVQ Level 2 and have experience in aspects of planned, preventative and day to day reactive maintenance issues and awareness of current statutory requirements.  You must have a willingness to work flexibly both independently and as part of the wider team.  A current driving licence is a must as there will be a need to travel between sites as well as other locations using the College’s designated vehicle.

Our College is located in Queen’s Lane in beautiful surroundings just off the High Street in Oxford with its historic charm.  Buses, cafes and shops are only a short distance away and the train station is approximately a 20-minute walk.  This all helps to create an excellent environment in which to work.

In return, you will benefit from working for a warm, supportive and inclusive organisation offering good development opportunities to broaden your skills plus a comprehensive benefits package as follows:

  • A free lunch whilst on duty and when the kitchen is open.
  • Excellent annual leave entitlement (up to 38 days) and additional days for long service.
  • Subsidised bus pass loans, season ticket loans and cycle scheme loans.
  • Access to the College’s employee assistance programme (a 24-hour telephone and online advisory and counselling service).
  • Discount in University shops, free entry to other colleges and libraries, discounted computer software from the University Computing Service, free access to the Botanical Gardens and Harcourt Arboretum and discounted membership of the University’s gym and pool.
  • Free annual flu vaccination.

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled into the Oxford Staff Pension Scheme which provides income in retirement plus sickness and life assurance benefits.

We are a very sociable team and arrange various staff events throughout the year including quizzes, a summer BBQ, a Christmas event and more.

The College seeks to foster a collaborative and respectful environment which promotes equality and diversity and inclusion together with a policy of assisting all our employees to achieve professional growth.  We strive to appoint committed and compassionate colleagues to help ensure every student achieves their best.
