Governance Officer

Full Time

The Governance Officer will play a pivotal role in providing professional administrative support to various College committees and sub-committees as well as overseeing the College’s policy library, undertaking small projects and maintaining registers and lists.

You will require significant administrative experience in a comparable setting (e.g., further or higher education, a charity or local government) and ideally some knowledge of higher education governance although this is not essential as training will be provided. The successful candidate must have experience of organising meetings, taking formal minutes within tight timeframes and following up with agreed actions.

The appointee will be part of a small, friendly team and will need to form excellent working relationships with committee chairs to ensure effective conduct of business and flow of information ultimately to the Governing Body.  A further important aspect of the role is the coordination of responses to Freedom of Information enquiries on behalf of the Finance Bursar to enable the College to fulfil its legal obligations in this area.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to handle confidential material and sensitive issues appropriately.

In return, you will benefit from working for a supportive and inclusive organisation (part of a world-leading university) offering good development opportunities to broaden your experience plus excellent benefits which include:

  • A free 3-course lunch
  • Membership of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (contributory pension scheme). Employee: 9.8% and Employer: 21.6% including life cover of up to three times your salary.
  • Excellent annual leave entitlement and additional days for long service.
  • Subsidised bus pass loans, season ticket loans and cycle scheme loan.
  • Access to the College’s employee assistance programme (a 24-hour telephone and online advisory and counselling service).
  • Discount in University shops, free entry to other Oxford colleges and libraries, discounted computer software from the University Computing Service, free access to the Botanical Gardens and Harcourt Arboretum and discounted membership of the University’s gym and pool.
  • Annual flu jab.
  • The post also qualifies for the Edu Health Scheme which offers special private medical insurance for university staff and their families at a discounted rate.

The College arranges various staff events throughout the year including quizzes, a summer BBQ, a Christmas event and more. Working in the office is encouraged although we do offer one day per week working from home for those teams who are able to.

The College seeks to foster a collaborative and respectful work environment which promotes equality, diversity and inclusion together with a policy of assisting all our employees to achieve professional growth. We strive to appoint committed and compassionate colleagues to help ensure every student achieves their best.
