CCB Guest Talk: Professor Paul Skokowski
Event
All Hall members and their guests warmly invited to a guest talk by Professor Paul Skokowski (Stanford University; Fellow of St Edmund Hall) on 28 April at 6:30 PM in Doctorow Hall.
Professor Skokowski is a philosopher and cognitive scientist whose work focuses on perception, consciousness, and the relationship between mind and world. He is Executive Director of the Center for the Explanation of Consciousness at Stanford, and his research brings together philosophy, neuroscience, and physics to better understand how conscious experience arises.
In this talk, he will discuss his new book, Sensing Qualia: Solving the Hard Problem of Consciousness. He will explore how subjective experience—what it feels like to see colour, hear sound, or feel pain—can be explained in terms of physical processes in the brain, presenting a new approach to understanding perception and consciousness.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A, with an opportunity for discussion. Refreshments will be provided, and all are welcome so feel free to invite those outside of college!
