Piano and Violin Recital with George Herbert and Carlos Rodriguez Otero
George Herbert was born in Manchester in 2001. He is studying for an MA in Ensemble Piano at the Royal Academy of Music with Professors Michael Dussek and James Baillieu, where he is a scholarship recipient and won the Schumann Lieder Prize and the Strings & Piano Duo Prize this year. He is a young artist at the Leeds and Oxford Song Festivals, a Samling Artist and a participant in the Wigmore Hall’s French Song Exchange. His recording of Strauss’s Violin and Piano Sonata with Nathan Nierdl for Linn Records will be released later this year. George studied German and Music at the University of Cambridge, and looks forward to upcoming recitals with singers and instrumentalists at the Wigmore Hall, the Salle Cortot in Paris and Hallwyska in Stockholm. He is kindly supported by the Choir Association of St John’s College, Cambridge.
Carlos Rodriguez Otero is Director of Music at St Edmund Hall and Fellow by Special Election in Music. He read Music at Queens’ College, Cambridge, where he was a choral scholar, and was later a Tenor Lay Clerk at St John’s College, Cambridge from 2021–24. During 2018–21, Carlos was Director of the Fisher House Schola Cantorum and has ample experience directing choral and orchestral projects across the UK. He has an active performing life as a tenor – regularly singing with Tenebrae and other concert and church choirs – and enjoys teaching music to all ages, supervising early European history, harmony and counterpoint for the Faculty of Music at Cambridge. He is also an active composer.
