Vocal Recital with Soprano Sophie Madden

Event

Event Information

Vocal Recital with Sophie Madden
Sophie Madden, soprano and member of College staff at St Edmund Hall, will be performing a programme of English and French song of the twentieth century.

The recital revolves around the songs of the little-performed composer Muriel Herbert (1897-1984). Her compositions masterfully set the texts of famous English and Irish poets such as A.E. Housman, James Joyce and Christina Rossetti. These songs will be paired with the song cycle, Mirages op. 113, by famous French composer Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), who set a collection of poems of the same name by the comparatively little-known French writer and literary expert Renée de Brimont (1880-1943). Join Sophie, and pianist Jeremy Wan, who hope to bring alive the often-quieted voices of these early twentieth century women.
