Does anybody not have a view on AI?

Over the course of the last year Searches for ChatGPT, increased by 2,700%. The AI safety summit hosted by Rishi Sunak in 2023 welcomed ‘relevant international efforts to examine and address the potential impact of AI systems’

Teddy talks are delighted to be joined in conversation with Michael Bhaskar (2002, English), co- author of The Coming Wave and Dr Linda Eggart (Early Career Fellow in Philosophy, who will join the College as Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy in October 2024) to share their views on AI.

Michael Bhaskar is Co-founder of fast-growing publishing company Canelo and a former consultant Writer in Residence at DeepMind.

He is the author of several leading works of non-fiction, including the New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling The Coming Wave: AI, Power and the 21st Century’s Greatest Dilemma with the entrepreneur Mustafa Suleyman. The New York Times described the coming wave as, ‘An urgent warning of the unprecedented risks that AI and other fast-developing technologies pose to global order, and how we might contain them while we have the chance’.

Dr Linda Eggert will be joining Teddy Hall as a Tutorial Fellow in 2024. She is currently an Early Career Fellow in Philosophy and at the Institute for Ethics in AI. Before this, Linda was an Interdisciplinary Ethics Fellow at the McCoy Center for Ethics in Society at Stanford University, a Fellow-in-Residence with the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, and a Technology & Human Rights Fellow with Harvard’s Carr Center for Human Rights Policy. In 2023, Linda was appointed to an Associate Professorship of Philosophy in the Faculty of Philosophy, which she will take up in 2024. Linda completed her DPhil at Oxford in 2021.
