The safety and security of residents and property is a key factor for the college, NSE is covered by CCTV for the purpose of crime prevention and public safety.

Residents can help preserve a safe and secure environment by following simple steps as below:

  1. Do not allow access into your building to anyone you do not know or recognise.
  2. Always lock your door and windows when away from your room.
  3. Try to make sure you are not tail-gated by strangers.
  4. If you do see anything or anyone suspicious then please contact the Warden or Lodge immediately.

Fire and smoke alarms are located in each building. These are tested weekly on a Friday, usually between the hours of 10:00 and 15:00.

Fire drills will be carried out termly to ensure all residents are familiar with the evacuation process.

Please familiarizse yourself with exit routes in your building.

When cooking in the kitchen please do not prop open the kitchen door as this will set off the fire alarm. Please use the window for ventilation.

To open your door:

Hold your Bod Card or wristband against the black tag reader above the door handle until the lock makes a sound and green light is visible.

To lock the door while inside:

Turn the thumb turn on your lock until the lock makes a sound confirming that the lock is in ‘locked mode’.

This will put the handle on the outside in ‘locked position’ which means no one will be able to open the door from the outside.

When in locked position you can still open the door from the inside to exit.

When leaving your room, please remember to lock your door behind you by holding your Bod Card or wristband against the black tag reader above the door handle until the lock makes a sound and a red light is visible.
