Philip Broadley

St Edmund Fellow

Philip Broadley studied PPE at St Edmund Hall graduating in 1983. He then trained as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen becoming a partner in 1993. His career changed direction in 2000 when he became Group Finance Director of Prudential plc, the international insurance and asset management group.  In 2008 he took up the same role at Old Mutual plc.  During this time he was Chairman of the 100 Group of Finance Directors and a member of The Takeover Panel.

In 2014 he returned to university and took a Master of Science degree in Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics. He now divides his time between serving as a non-executive director and a charity trustee. He is a director of AstraZeneca plc and Legal & General Group plc, chairing the audit committees of both. He is chairman of governors of Eastbourne College, where he was a pupil, and Treasurer of the London Library. He has previously served on the Hall’s investment committee and the university’s audit and scrutiny committee.

Philip and his wife, Gillian, have two adult children, Anna and Simon. Philip was elected a St Edmund Hall Fellow in November 2018.
