Tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m Luna, I am from Cornwall. I am an MSc Student in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing at Teddy Hall. I did my undergraduate at Exeter Cornwall Campus in Mathematical Sciences. Alongside study I work as a maths communicator, bringing the joys of maths to the masses. I enjoy regular comedy nights, acting and running.

Tell us about your academic life…

My research interests lie around geometric applied Maths. I have worked on projects related to the environment, such as oil tanker flipping and modelling ecological / renewable engineering systems. I have pursued mathematics for many years, but only in the later half of my degree did I find interests in applied Maths. I started my degree doing a range of subjects from game development to pure Maths to Chinese. As a trans woman, mathematics is extremely inviting and especially here in Oxford it provides a safe space for all mathematicians to follow their interests and the Hall is integral to that.

Tell us about your favourite memories from the Hall…

Coming in for dinner after a long day in the office and seeing familiar and happy faces that are always there to chat, the wonderful MCR events that are put on, and the welcoming atmosphere.

What do you think of when you hear ‘Women of the Hall’?

The Hall is my college, it holds a very important place in my heart. It isn’t just a place to get food and an accommodation source. It is a place where I have friends and can strive to be the best version of myself. Although the Hall is very cisgender, it is a place of safety and the women of the hall are very welcoming.
