Saroj (Rosie)

Scout

Rosie is pictured in her favourite spot, the Wolfson Hall.

I am British-Indian, and have been living in Oxford most of my life. I have been working at the Hall for more than thirty years! But I haven’t been a scout that whole time, I’ve moved around, working in the Servery and Conferences too.

Whilst working at the Hall I have also been looking after my growing family, who I spend my time with when I’m not at work. I have eight grandchildren now so there are still lots of them to look after!

One of my favourite times in the Hall was when I was working in Conferences. I got to meet people from all over the world who came to stay with us. I particularly like when the law students come over from Florida State University every year – they are lovely to look after and very interesting to talk to.

I really like the Hall as a place to work, they have always been very helpful to me. As a scout, I now look after third year students in the front quad and they are lovely people. They know I will always help them if they need anything, and they help me out too.

This isn’t the only time Rosie’s name came up in Women of the Hall either – some of our 4th years talked about her among women who had inspired them at the Hall, saying how kind she had been to them during their undergrad years. One of her current third years even told us how she cooked them lunch once and left it in the fridge for him, just because they’d mentioned they really liked a specific dish. As well as being a grandma herself, they always call her their corridor grandma too!
