I grew up just down the road in Radley and went away for university, but after graduation immediately felt the pull back to the dreaming spires. I worked at OUP and the University Language Centre before starting at the Hall seven years ago, and I love contributing to the ongoing life of such a historic and impressive institution. Outside of work I’m a big foodie and love eating out but also cooking at home and hosting dinner parties as much as possible. I have got more into baking recently so have been pressing my home bakes onto my (hopefully willing) office colleagues! I also enjoy the many interesting talks/quizzes/plays that are always available in Oxford, and I’m pretty obsessed with my cat Simba.

I studied English and Drama at Royal Holloway, University of London, and then stayed on to do a Masters in Victorian Literature, Media and Culture. I initially took the course purely due to enjoying the subjects at A level, rather than thinking ahead to a particular career. Both of these courses at uni were fairly female-dominated and a lot of my best friends today were made at university – I loved every minute!

Tell us about your favourite memories from the Hall…

Luke Maw and I started at the Hall within two days of each other, and it has been so much fun sharing an office ever since. I have really enjoyed the staff summer barbeques over the past couple of years, as well as the Geddes’ lectures.

Once we were lucky enough to go up to the top of the Library Tower and see the wonderful views up there which was great – there are so many nooks and crannies of college I still haven’t explored yet though!

What does the Hall mean to you?

The College has such a great sense of community, with a friendly and inclusive atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging. When I first started, I loved the 3000 Women Campaign run by Development that still has photos displayed in the Wolfson Hall now – this immediately  made me feel like the College was a place that supported gender equality. I regularly help out with giving ad hoc tours of college to prospective applicants and it’s always very easy to be enthusiastic about the Hall and the atmosphere here. Even as a staff member you pick up strongly on the Hall Spirit amongst the student community and it is definitely a friendly college.

Within the College Office we are majority women, and particularly now that I’m pregnant and going on maternity leave soon I’ve had such great support from everyone. As the baby is a girl, you could even say that I’m currently representing two women of the Hall!
