Free Will-Writing Service

Planning for the future is one of the most important steps you can take, providing peace of mind for you and those closest to you.

With the University of Oxford’s free will-writing service, you can create or update a simple will at no cost, helping to ensure that your wishes are clearly recorded. Through this partnership with Taylor Lucas, alumni can arrange a video or telephone appointment with an experienced estate planning specialist. They can help you write a new Will or update an existing one, covering assets held in England and Wales.

There is no obligation to leave a gift to St Edmund Hall or the University in order to use this free service. However, many alumni choose to support future generations of Aularians in this way, and we are always deeply grateful to those who decide to do so.

Partners and family members are also welcome to use this service free of charge, and preferential rates are available for optional related services, including Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Tax Benefits

St Edmund Hall is a registered charity and there are considerable tax benefits to leaving charitable bequests in your will. In the UK, gifts to the College are exempt from Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax. A gift from you can reduce the amount of any tax payable out of your estate. If you decide to leave 10% or more of your estate to charity, the inheritance tax payable on the remainder of your estate reduces from 40% to 36% which is not only good news for your loved ones, but also for the important causes that you support.

These tax benefits vary from country to country so we encourage donors to seek advice from their solicitors or financial advisors.

 

The Floreat Aula Legacy Society

The Floreat Aula Legacy Society recognises and thanks those who have made a provision to the Hall in their will. Over 270 Aularians have committed to remembering the Hall in their will and for many this provides an opportunity to make a sizeable gift that they may not be able to make in their lifetime.

Legacy gifts are highly valued and always used respectfully to advance the college in very special ways. Recent legacy gifts to the Hall have included a gift to the Student Bursaries and Financial Assistance Fund to support students studying English; an unrestricted gift which will be directed towards the College’s area of greatest need; a gift to support music at the Hall; and a gift made to name a room at Norham St Edmund in memory of a fellow Aularian.

Members of the Society are invited to the biennial Floreat Aula Legacy Society Dinner, which offers an opportunity to revisit the Hall and meet Aularians of all generations.
