Creativity Workshop with Dr Jonathan James
Event

Event Information
Come and join us for the very first event in the new Music at St Edmund Hall event series hosted by the Director of Music. Together, we’ll explore how music can spark creativity and collaboration. Ever wondered how improvisation works—not just in music, but in everyday interactions? Or how creative ideas grow when people come together? This session is for anyone curious, whether you’re a seasoned musician or someone who just enjoys a good tune.
Expect a relaxed mix of discussion, hands-on music-making (no experience needed!), and inspiration. We’ll finish by co-creating a brand-new piece of music—Teddy’s Rite—taking a playful cue from Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.
Here’s how the afternoon will go:
At 1.30pm, we’ll kick things off with an informal discussion led by Dr Jonathan James about collaboration and creativity in music. Then there will be a group workshop, where everyone will be invited to join in (in whatever way feels comfortable!) as we build a brand-new piece of music together with a team of Teddy Hall musicians.
There’ll be time to chat and ask questions throughout, and we’ll wrap up by 4:00pm, with a short performance of what we’ve made.
Come along and be part of something fun, creative, and a little bit different.
