Love in all its various forms (unrequited, romantic and lascivious mischief) is explored in the songs by leading musical figures working in Maximilian’s court: Heinrich Isaac, Paul Hofhaimer and Ludwig Senfl, one of the most prolific composers of German song and secular music of the period.
Tickets are £20 and must be purchased via Ticket Source. Entry is free to Hall members and staff plus one guest.
The Performers
The Linarol Consort of Renaissance Viols
The Linarol Consort draws together players who are leading exponents of the viol as both a consort and solo instrument, and focuses uniquely on their love of the instrument’s very earliest sound and repertoire. One of their players is Aularian Claire Horáček née Harrison (1986, BFA Fine Art).
James Gilchrist
A prolific and versatile recitalist, James Gilchrist enjoys imaginative and varied programming in collaborations with pianists Anna Tilbrook and Julius Drake, and harpist Alison Nicholls. Recent appearances include a Schubertiade weekend at St John Smith Square and Schwanengesang coupled with Beethoven’ An die Ferne Geliebte at the Wigmore Hall. James recently returned to the Wigmore Hall to begin his project with Anna Tilbrook, Schumann and the English Romantics, pairing Schumann song cycles with new commissions from leading composers including, Sally Beamish, Julian Philips and Jonathan Dove, setting English poetry of the Romantic period.
