33rd Annual New York Dinner

Guests at the New York Dinner

On 17 November, over 80 Aularians from North America and further afield gathered for the 33rd annual New York Dinner. The event provided an opportunity to mark the Principalship of Professor Keith Gull and, as such, attracted a record number of attendees.

As well as seeing many familiar faces, it was a pleasure to welcome many newcomers, including a good number of younger Aularians. Bill Miller (1949, PPE), the founder of the New York Dinner was in attendance, along with Justus O’Brien (1979, PPE) who kindly hosted the dinner at the Racquet & Tennis Club.

Principal Keith Gull gave his report of the year, sharing many of the College’s recent activities and achievements. Bob Gaffey (1975, Jurisprudence) presented Keith and Dr Dianne Gull with a map of New York from 1805 as a gift from the dinner attendees to thank them both all their work in North America and for Keith’s unswerving commitment to both “Hall Spirit” and supporting student ambition and welfare.

The dinner marked the launch of the Principal Keith Gull’s Fund. This fund is to be used at the discretion of future Principals to provide direct support to Hall students who wish to undertake special projects (such as charitable work, choral and drama tours, travel for unusual academic opportunities and to assist others) or to those who find themselves in financial difficulty through unexpected or unfortunate circumstances. It will provide very direct and immediate assistance where often small amounts of funding can make a very big impact.

To honour the many achievements of Principal Gull the Hall now wishes to endow this fund in Keith’s name.

Donations made to the Principal Keith Gull’s Fund will be matched pound for pound. This match-fund has been made possible thanks to the generosity of Aularians.
