Thanks to Julia Jones (2017, Geography), JCR Arts and Culture Officer, for the following report.

Teddy Hall’s Got Talent is an annual event in the calendar of the JCR and MCR (the Junior Common Room and Middle Common Room – our undergraduate and postgraduate student bodies). It was also mine and Rafe’s final calling during our tenure as JCR Arts and Culture Officers. Last Saturday spectators flocked to the Wolfson Hall to be entertained by their peers at the Hall. On the judging panel for the evening were Emily Thwaites (JCR President), Ronnie Guthrie (MCR President) and, representing the Senior Common Room, our Principal Kathy Willis.

As is tradition, amongst the acts were three fresher contingents from sports teams competing for a separate prize of money behind the College bar. After diverse performances, including a creative attempt at Beyonce’s Single Ladies dance from the rugby freshers and a song from the footballers, the women’s sports freshers took home the title with an amusing and impressively choreographed synchronised swimming routine.

The rest of the performers ranged from veteran Teddy Hall’s Got Talent winner Robin de Meyere’s expert pole-dancing, to a beautiful rendition of Rachmaninoff from Alexis Chevalier. Third prize was awarded to my band, Night Tracks, with a Winehouse number, consisting of vocals, guitar, drums by Ian Hollander, cello by Helena Greening, and Lizzie Evans on the sax. The deserving runner up was Mayur Saxena’s energetic Bollywood dancing, which captivated the audience and provided an enjoyable contrast on the night. However, the winner of Teddy Hall’s Got Talent 2019 was Catherine (Cazzie) Winterton, who sang a stunning song she wrote herself. Cazzie is the talented lead singer of Oxford band Stephen Hero and has a Soundcloud [Lohrd Snohw] where she uploads more of her own original material.

The event was a great a success and we would like to thank Nathan Brown for hosting, and the judges for their contributions. We hope to find more ways to continue to showcase the huge talent the Hall has to offer!
