Professor Andrew Kahn

Congratulations to Andrew Kahn FBA, Professor and Tutorial Fellow of Russian Literature and Modern Languages at St Edmund Hall, and Dr Kelsey Detlev-Rubin who (as Co-PIs) have been awarded the 2023 BSECS (British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies) Prize for Best Digital Resource, for the ’Digital Correspondence of Catherine the Great’.

The citation notes that ‘CatCor was chosen by the panel as the winner of the 2023 BSECS Prize for Digital Resources. The judges described it as an ‘excellent resource’ that ‘unearths and makes available a large range of Catherine the Great’s letters’. They added that the site was ‘intuitive’ and that ‘the transcriptions and detailed cataloguing of the manuscripts is very impressive. Although it makes clear that the database is not a “Critical Edition”, it serves as the best available versions of many of these texts. The site also has scope to grow by incorporating c.10,000 further letters’.

Professor Kahn was recently appointed Academic Editor of Electronic Enlightenment (EE), a digital resource that has been transformational in eighteenth-century studies worldwide. More information about EE can be read in the St Edmund Hall Magazine 2021-22.
