28 Nov 2024
On Monday 25 November, Ange Mlinko treated a large audience in the Old Dining Hall to the first Meet the Poet reading of the academic year. She read from her new collection Foxglovewise, which will shortly be published with Faber. Ange also generously answered questions from the audience on topics including poetry’s relation to the visual arts and the necessities of form, especially rhyme and stanza.
Ange is the author of six books of poetry: Venice (2022); Distant Mandate (2017); Marvelous Things Overheard (2013), which was selected by both the New Yorker and the Boston Globe as a best book of 2013; Shoulder Season (2010), a finalist for the William Carlos Williams Award; Starred Wire (2005), which was a National Poetry Series winner in 2004 and a finalist for the James Laughlin Award; and Matinees (1999). Foxglovewise is her seventh collection. A book of lyric criticism, Difficult Ornaments: Florida and the Poets, is also just out from Oxford University Press.
Meet the Poet readings are free and open to the public.
