Hall Remembers Professor Verdel Amos Kolve

St Edmund Hall is extremely sad to announce that our Honorary Fellow, Professor Verdel Amos Kolve, an internationally renowned scholar of medieval literature, died peacefully at his home on 5 November 2022.
Professor Kolve came to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar in 1955 to study English Language and Literature at Jesus College, after graduating summa cum laude in English at the University of Wisconsin. Between 1958 and 1962, he was tutor and Research Fellow at St Edmund Hall. He has served as President of the Medieval Academy of America, as President of the International New Chaucer Society, and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Verdel has held Senior Fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.), and twice been a Visiting Fellow at the Rockefeller Villa Serbelloni Research Center (Como, Italy).
