Music at St Edmund Hall Series

16 Dec 2025

During Michaelmas Term, a new series of music events was launched at the Hall by Director of Music Carlos Rodríguez Otero to engage our community and beyond to participate in a wide range of music.

The opening event brought together over forty participants for an afternoon exploring Fauré’s Requiem with the College Choir, led by Director of Music Carlos Rodríguez Otero. After rehearsals and a shared meal in the Wolfson Hall, a fifty-strong chorus of Hall students, Fellows, alumni and visitors performed the complete work for family and friends.

The second event featured an inspiring workshop led by Jonathan James on group creativity and collaborative music-making. Hall instrumentalists and singers, joined by guests from other colleges, worked together to reinterpret Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, alongside reflections on musical creativity and its wider applications.

The series concluded for the term with a workshop for the Feast of St Edmund. Over thirty participants from the Hall, other colleges and the wider public explored psalmody, improvised polyphony and singing from original sources, before joining in a service of Vespers culminating in a Magnificat by Cristóbal de Morales.

Keep an eye out for next term’s ‘Music at St Edmund Hall Series’.
