Boat-naming ceremony in honour of Matt Greenwood

We were very pleased to welcome back Michaela and Peter Greenwood, parents of Matt Greenwood (2013, Engineering Science), at the weekend for a ceremony to name a boat in Matt’s honour.

Matt sadly lost his battle with cancer in December last year. He was an outstanding student and keen sportsman, and his many friends in the St Edmund Hall Boat Club (SEHBC) were keen to name the next new boat in his memory.

Around thirty people gathered for a boat-naming ceremony on Sunday, organised by Geordie Macleod (our men’s coach) and Ed Baker (President of SEHBC), and with the Boat Club’s Senior Member Simon Costa in attendance. Michaela poured champagne over the bow as Matt’s name was revealed on the new boat.

The coxed four was provided thanks to fundraising by the Friends of the Boat Club. After the ceremony, it was taken out onto the water for a short row past, by Ed Baker (4), Geordie Macleod (3), Takashi Lawson (2), Jon Connolly (1) and Dhaval Desai (cox).
