Outreach Roadshow to Leicestershire and Peterborough

St Edmund Hall held its second annual Outreach Roadshow earlier this year, in September. Accompanied by four student ambassadors, our Schools Liaison Officer Luke Maw visited schools in Leicestershire and Peterborough to deliver sessions on applying to and studying at Oxford.

The student ambassadors – Elaine from County Durham, Nathan from Manchester, Flavia from Bucharest, Romania, and Adam from Sandhurst – delivered interactive sessions on personal statements, critical thinking, and also the types of questions that Oxford tutors might use in interviews. Adam, the JCR (Junior Common Room, the College’s undergraduate student body) Access Officer said “it’s not always possible for schools to come to visit Oxford, so the Roadshow is a great opportunity for us to go and engage with students who we might not otherwise have the chance to talk to. With the student ambassadors there as well, it gives the pupils the opportunity to speak to some current Teddy Hall students and to get a better sense of what it is actually like studying at Oxford and, more specifically, Teddy Hall. It’s also an extremely enjoyable and rewarding experience for us as student ambassadors – we have the opportunity to engage with many eager, intelligent, thoughtful individuals who are clearly very passionate about their subjects.”

Having worked with over 400 students during the four days the group spent in Leicestershire and Peterborough, Schools Liaison Officer Luke was very pleased with how the Roadshow went: “It was great to be able to engage with so many students during our Roadshow, and it was particularly rewarding that I was able to bring student ambassadors with me – they added so much more to the sessions we were able to deliver, and could impart a vast amount of knowledge about life at Oxford.”
