9 Dec 2025
Professor Krina Zondervan, Fellow by Special Election in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be featured in a new portrait series named ‘Catalysts’ celebrating the leading innovators at Oxford University. This initiative between the Bodleian Libraries and British Journal of Photography will see 19 portraits added to the Weston Library’s permanent collection.
Professor Zondervan is being recognised for her research on endometriosis which has transformed the understanding and treatment of women’s reproductive health. She was photographed at St Edmund Hall alongside an Aphrodite exhibit from the Ashmolean Museum by photographer Alys Tomlinson.
The aim of the series is to show the extraordinary impact of individuals and groups who have advanced culture, science and education.
Bodleian Libraries readers will be able to enjoy the portraits from the new year, when they will be first displayed in the South Parks Road entrance of the Weston Library. To ensure that everyone gets the chance to see the new portraits, in 2026 Catalysts will also be the focus of a series of accessible public and University events, with further details to be shared by the Bodleian Library soon.
To view the portraits, please visit the BBC website or the Bodleian Library Press Release.
