Giovanni Rolandino

MCR President (2023-24)

Giovanni Rolandino (2021, DPhil Surgical Sciences) is a postgraduate student at St Edmund Hall.

Giovanni is reading for a DPhil at the department of Surgical Sciences, currently in his third year. Before the beginning of his doctoral studies, he studied Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London (MSc, 2020) and in Milan, his native city. He also worked briefly in computer science between his MSc and his DPhil. While at Oxford he also became involved with CDL – Creative Destruction Lab, a startup incubator based at Saïd business school, with whom he’s been collaborating since Spring 2023. During the second year of his DPhil he joined the Hall’s boat club, finding in rowing a pleasant distraction from work and study.

Giovanni’s research is based in Oxford at John Radcliffe hospital. As part of Oxford Neural Interfacing Group, he develops and validates Artificial Intelligence algorithms to translate physiological electrical signals to control of advanced prosthetic devices.

In his role as President, Giovanni’s main responsibility is representing the postgraduate student body to senior members of the College, as well as to various University-wide committees. He also works with the MCR Committee on the organisation of social and welfare activities around College, and is always available to listen to any suggestions or requests, or any other changes the students would like to see to college life. If you are a student who wants to effect change, you can contact Giovanni at mcr.president@seh.ox.ac.uk.
