Simon Hurst is a Tutor in Surgery at St Edmund Hall
Simon Hurst is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford. He specialises in shoulder and elbow surgery and works at the John Radcliffe Hospital Major Trauma Centre, where he is Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics, and at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
He is dually trained in the United Kingdom and France, having completed postgraduate orthopaedic training in London followed by fellowship and consultant-level practice in Paris. His academic interests focus on emerging technologies in surgery, including robotics.
Simon has a strong commitment to medical education and the Oxford tutorial system. He is a faculty member on the University of Oxford Musculoskeletal MSc, contributes to national surgical assessment as an FRCS question setter for The Royal College of Surgeons, and supports St Edmund Hall students through tutorial teaching, and mentorship in clinical surgery.
In addition to his NHS and University roles, he has over ten years of prior experience in the Army Reserves and has undertaken humanitarian surgical work in Ukraine, supporting the care of patients with complex traumatic injuries. He is fluent in French.
