Tony Best

St Edmund Fellow

Tony Best was educated at Berkhamsted School and came to St Edmund Hall in 1979 to read PPE. After Oxford, Tony pursued a career in the City, starting at stockbrokers Simon and Coates as an equity research analyst.

Tony then moved into a sales role and joined JP Morgan in 1985 as a fixed income salesman. He spent four years in New York in the late 1980s and returned to London to join the firm’s financial derivatives team, before moving into the Emerging Markets business in 1994 (focused on Russia, Eastern Europe, Turkey and South Africa).

Over the next 15 years, whilst surviving several mergers, he ran a variety of investor sales businesses in the global markets division and became Head of Global Sales and a member of the Executive Committee in 2008, before opting “to spend more time with his family” in 2010.

He is now involved with a family business in defence and aerospace electronics and currently still holds a variety of board level positions. Tony is married with three daughters.
