Early Career Graduate Trainee Library Assistant

This exciting opportunity is designed for someone intending to proceed to a postgraduate library/information management course. It also provides a third full-time member of staff for the Library allowing us to offer extended services in our collections development, provision for students and outreach.

The successful candidate will become a vital part of a small team and will be expected to take a full role in the day-to-day running of the Library and the development of our collections. They will also contribute to the Library’s role within the College, taking part in student inductions, helping to run classes for visiting schools, and assisting with exhibitions regularly held in the Old Library.

Our students are our priority. A strong commitment to provision for the Library’s student members is essential; as is a creative enthusiasm to help develop our services in line with the College’s strategic aims.

The post involves participating in the Bodleian Libraries’ trainee scheme, which operates under the SCONUL Code of Practice. The scheme provides the necessary experience for applying for postgraduate courses in information and library management. This scheme offers an intensive training and development opportunity, and the support of a cohort of peers from libraries across the university. Training is held one afternoon per week, usually a Wednesday, and forms a normal part of the working week.

Following successful completion of a probationary period, a two year extension to the role may be available to enable the post-holder to complete a part-time Library Studies Master’s Course from a UK-based CILIP-accredited Masters level programme. Course costs will by met in full by the College and study time built into their working hours (approx. one day/week over two years).

A Cover Sheet detailing the names and contact details of two referees.  Referees should be people who have direct experience of your potential as a librarian through working with you or being involved in your education/training.  At least one should be someone who has directly supervised your work.
  2. A current CV;
