Teddy Hall’s Meet the Poet series presents a reading by Katie Peterson.

Katie Peterson is the author of six books – This One Tree (2006); Permission (2013); The Accounts, winner of the Rilke Prize from the University of North Texas (2013); A Piece of Good News (2019), named one of the Best Poetry Books of the Year by The New York Times; Life in a Field (2021), a text and image collaboration with the photographer Young Suh; and Fog and Smoke, published in 2024 and recently in paperback by FSG. Fog and Smoke was named a Book of the Year by the Times Literary Supplement. It was also reviewed in the Los Angeles Review of Books, The Washington Post, and Booklist, which noted, “Fog and Smoke is a triumph of observation and intimacy that invigorates the reader to act for the natural world.”

Peterson’s poems and reviews have appeared in The Atlantic, the Los Angeles Review of Books, Literary Imagination, The New York Review of Books, Poetry London, and elsewhere. She was the Featured Reader at Poetry London’s Spring Readings in March 2024, and her essay on Hannah Arendt’s poetry appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books in Fall 2024. Peterson was one of the founding directors of the University of California at Davis’ MFA Program in Creative Writing. A Visiting Fellow at St Edmund Hall this year, she is Professor of English at UC Davis and makes her permanent home in California.
