Alumni events take place in Brussels, London and Vienna

The Hall recently hosted three drinks receptions for alumni – in Brussels, London and Vienna. The events provided a wonderful opportunity for guests to catch up with Aularian friends old and new, and to hear the latest updates from the Hall.

On Thursday 28 November, the Principal and the Director of Development, Andrew Vivian, hosted a drinks reception for Aularians at the Fondation Universitaire, Brussels. The event was advertised across the Benelux countries and brought together nearly 20 alumni from not only Brussels but also The Hague, Amsterdam and Luxembourg. It was fascinating to hear about the careers of alumni in this part of Europe, many of whom are involved with European-wide projects and in diplomatic roles at the European Commission.

The same day, just over 40 Aularians met for an informal drinks reception in the Fountain & Ink in Southbank, London. The casual pub setting encouraged alumni of all ages to attend – matriculands from 1960 up to as recently as 2021 – including several attendees joining for their first alumni event. While some travelled together and enjoyed catching up with old friends, others took the opportunity to meet someone new, sharing stories of their time at the Hall and where life has taken them since.

Earlier in the week, Dr Alex Lloyd, Fellow by Special Election in German and Senior Dean, also hosted a small gathering of alumni in Vienna while she was in the city for research purposes.

The events were held as part of the Hall’s efforts to reach alumni outside Oxford, complementing the many local reunions kindly organised by alumni, including the annual lunch in Glasgow as well as recent drinks in Toronto, Sydney and Nashville. There will be more “pop-up” events to follow in future, providing an opportunity for academics and representatives of the Hall to engage with alumni and for alumni to connect with fellow Aularians in locations across the UK, Europe and globally.
