Charity Formal Hall in the Wolfson Hall

Our annual charity Formal Hall, which gives Teddy Hall students the opportunity to bid for support for a good cause of their choice, took place on Friday 8 February. This year £376 was raised, to be shared between the Bone Cancer Research Trust (BCRT) and Dig Deep, a charity which aims to provide clean drinking water, safe toilets and hygiene training in rural Kenya.

The organisation was coordinated by four students. Ed Baker, Freddie Soerensen, and Sean Selzer from the Middle Common Room (our postgraduate student body) are fundraising for the BCRT in memory of Matt Greenwood, an Engineering student at St Edmund Hall who died of bone cancer on 11 December 2016. This summer, they will take part in the Mongol Rally, a charity motoring challenge where the aim is to drive from Europe to Ulan Ude in Russia in a car that is 1ltr (1000cc) or less.

Undergraduate Natalie Beadle was the other organiser, and she is leading the Oxford RAG International Challenge Team in a year-long fundraising challenge, and expedition to climb Mt Kilimanjaro. She aims to raise a £1495 donation to Dig Deep’s project work, and a further £1495 covering charity administration, national park entry fees, and paying guides and porters on the mountain a fair wage – supporting important sources of revenue for the Tanzanian economy.

Money was raised through a quiz during dinner, a subsequent charity night out at Cirkus, and a raffle with numerous prizes donated by local businesses. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.
