Introducing the new JCR President Guus Wijnne

13 Jan 2026

Guus Wijnne

As Hilary term gets underway, we asked Guus Wijnne (2024, History and Politics), the recently elected Junior Common Room (JCR) President, a few questions about his time at Hall so far and his plans for the future in this role.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your area of study?

Hi, I’m Guus and I’m a second-year History and Politics student. HisPol is a fascinating degree because of the diversity of topics you get to study. I’ve been able to study topic as diverse as the works of Saint Augustine, the effect of judiciaries on policy, to statistical analysis. I’m beginning my thesis over this summer, most likely focusing on demographic or economic history.

Why did you decide to run for JCR President?

I decided to run because I thought it was a lovely way to continue to represent the Hall. Although we’re only here so briefly, I’m sure everybody loves and appreciates the time we have here. Being JCR President gives me a front seat to the amazing community we have here at Teddy!

What are your goals in the post?

I’d love to continue to foster the feeling of cohesiveness in college life. Although Teddy community’s is very strong, sometimes students, especially incoming ones, can feel a little left in the dark. Getting our website set up again, using our Instagram, and working more closely with the MCR are some of my goals – alongside continuing all the brilliant sports, arts, and charity activity we already partake in!

How have you been involved in Hall life in the past?

I’ve tried to involve myself as much as possible from my first day in College! I row for College in SEHBC, play badminton, take part in our creative writing society, and I am currently working on getting Teddy’s drama society restarted.

What’s your favourite moment from life at the Hall so far?

The final performance of the Teddy Pantomime last year! It was the culmination of a full term of directorial effort, alongside a brilliant team of actors and producers. I’ll admit I got a bit teary eyed during the last song…

Alongside Guus, the following JCR Committee members were also elected:

Sacha Hunter, Olivia Dogan, Yuji de Vera: Entz Reps
Josephine Simpson: Secretary
Nina Rainbow, Ptolemy Egan: Welfare Officers
Abi Lovelock-Blair: Access Officers
Jasmine Kajal: Accommodation Officer
Adélaïde Boucher-Ferté: Charities Officer
Elsa Smith: Environment and Ethics Officer
Jeremy Azzopardi: International Students Officer
Oscar Moore: Academic Affairs Officer

Many congratulations to Guus and the new Committee!
