New 'Meet the Poet' series

26 Oct 2017

Kathleen Jamie

Teddy Hall’s new ‘Meet the Poet’ series will bring a well-known poet to the College once a term for a reading in the Old Dining Hall followed by a question and answer session. We look forward to welcoming the first of our guest poets, Kathleen Jamie, for the inaugural event on Friday 10 November, at 5:30pm in the Old Dining Hall.

“The spirit of these events is relaxed, inclusive and informal,” explained organiser Erica McAlpine (Fellow and Tutor in English). “The readings complement our weekly creative writing workshops and add to our profile as a college where poetry happens and is celebrated. Entry is always free, and the readings are open to all members of the University as well as to the public.”

Kathleen Jamie was born and raised in Scotland and lives there still. Her books of poetry include The Bonniest Companie (2015), The Overhaul (2012), The Tree House (2004), and Jizzen (1999). She is one of the most celebrated British poets, having won an Eric Gregory Award, a Somerset Maugham Award, two Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prizes, a Costa Award, and the Forward Prize – among many others. Three of her collections have been shortlisted for the T. S. Eliot Prize. She is also a nature writer and the author of two essay collections, Findings (2005) and Sightlines (2012).
