New Year Honours for Aularians

Aularians Susanna Berry (1982, Modern Languages & Linguistics), Daniel McCallum (1987, History), Mark Sedwill (1987, MPhil Economics) and Howard Orme (1979, PPE) have all been recognised in the 2018 New Year’s Honours.

Susanna, the Deputy Director at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, was awarded an OBE for services to national security.

Daniel is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Awel Aman Tawe, a Welsh community energy charity whose aim is to raise awareness of the importance of clean energy. For his work with the charity, Daniel was awarded an MBE for services to community energy in Wales.

Howard was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB), for public services, especially to Finance and Building Delivery Capability. The Chief Financial and Operating Officer at the Department for Education, Howard leads the Insight, Resources and Transformation Directorate. He joined DfE in October 2016 and was previously Director General at the Strategy and Resources Directorate.

Meanwhile, Mark Sedwill received a knighthood under the Order of St Michael and St George for services to UK national security. Mark led the Home Office for over four years until he was appointed by the Prime Minister to be the National Security Adviser in April 2017.
