Pontigny Choir Tour 2023

The Choir of St Edmund Hall, under Director of Music Dr James Whitbourn, performed to a large and rapturous audience in Pontigny Abbey, France, on Friday 8 September.

The concert included works by Taverner, Purcell, Byrd, Eric Whitacre, James MacMillan and the world premiere of Lucy Walker’s anthem ‘We shall walk’. The concert was part of an ongoing relationship between the College and the Abbey, where the remains of St Edmund of Abingdon, the Hall’s namesake, rest in a stunning golden casket above the High Altar since his death circa 1240.
