Principal-Elect Kathy Willis receives Marsh Award for Ecology

25 Aug 2018

Professor Kathy Willis, who is soon to take up the role of Principal at the Hall, has received the British Ecological Society’s Marsh Award for Ecology. The distinction is awarded “for a current research record which is having a significant impact on the development of the science of ecology or its application.”

The Marsh Award has been awarded annually since 1996 in recognition of an individual’s outstanding achievements in the field of ecology. Selection criteria are based on a wide range of factors, including the quality of research and publications, speaking at international conferences, and membership of national and international advisory boards. Currently Director of Science at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Kathy also held the Tasso Leventis Chair in Biodiversity and was Head of the Oxford Long-term Ecology Laboratory and founding Director of the Biodiversity Institute.

Kathy will replace Professor Keith Gull as Principal of St Edmund Hall following his retirement at the end of September this year. The Hall would like to offer our warmest congratulations to Professor Willis on her achievement, and we look forward to welcoming her as our next head of house.
