On Wednesday 18 March, St Edmund Hall Fellow and tutor in Physics, Professor Jeff Tseng, was appointed Assessor of the University of Oxford. Admitted alongside two Proctors, Professor Andrew Farmery at Wadham College and Professor Caroline Warman from Jesus college, Professor Tseng will oversee student matters and uphold the University’s statutes and policies throughout its governance and administration. The Assessor has a particular focus on policies for student health, welfare and financial issues.
The Hall hosted a celebratory tea for Professor Tseng before the admissions ceremony from the College to the Sheldonian Theatre where the Proctors and Assessor were admitted to their senior officer positions for a service of 12 months. Afterwards, the Hall held a special lunch in the historic seventeenth century Old Dining Hall to mark the occasion.
Jeff shared: “I was very honoured to be elected as Assessor by my colleagues at St Edmund Hall. When I took the steps up to sit with the Proctors, it was with the sense of a somewhat weighty responsibility, but also of great support from my colleagues, and of looking forward to a rather unusual year seeing the University from many more angles. And I know I’m going to miss my students, who have been a real joy to teach!”
The Hall also congratulates Senior Research Fellow, Professor Kate Saunders, who was appointed Pro-Proctor to the Senior Proctor from Wadham College.
