Teddy bears, real roses, ‘Pin the Cherry on the Gateau’ and a mask of Mary Berry’s face – the perfect ingredients for Friday’s cake sale and Bake Off at St Edmund Hall, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Students, staff, alumni and members of the public alike gathered in the Old Dining Hall from 10am-12pm to sample some of the amazing cakes and sweet treats brought in by members of the Teddy Hall community.

Held in schools, workplaces and communities across the UK, the Macmillan Coffee Morning aims to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. After a busy morning of tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, the total money raised at the Teddy Hall coffee morning came to £381.89.

The centrepiece of the day was the Bake Off competition, judged by John Claxton, Chef de Partie, and Belinda Huse, Accommodation Manager. The audience waited with bated breath as the judges determined the winner, based on creativity, aesthetic appeal and – most importantly – taste. The competition was close, but College Lecturer in German Alex Lloyd emerged victorious for her cake ‘Teddy’s First Term’.

Special thanks to our Bake Off judges, Belinda Huse and John Claxton, and to Sam Green and Molly McCarthy for organising the event.
