Basil was Tutor in Engineering at St Edmund Hall from 1981 and Professor of Engineering Science from 1999, until his retirement in 2014.
Research
The development of Model Based Predictive Control algorithms for linear, and nonlinear, deterministic and stochastic, dynamical constrained systems with particular emphasis on control theoretic properties such as the guarantee of closed loop stability and feasibility as well as computational efficiency. A spin-off of this research is an interest in the application of predictive control to problems in sustainable development and the control of wind turbines, both in the context of power generation.
