Paul Powell

Paul Powell (1988, English) writes comedy for TV and radio.

He’s picked up a Comedy Award for Al Murray’s Happy Hour, an RTS award for Miranda and the title of 39th greatest comedy sketch for Smack The Pony. Paul’s television credits include two series of Insert Name Here (BBC2), Zapped (Dave), Have I Got News For You (BBC1), Spitting Image (ITV1) and Would I Lie To You? (BBC1). Radio credits include The Now Show (Radio 4), The Griff Rhys Jones Show (Radio 2) and It’s Your Round (Radio 4).

He’s a creative director of Black Dog Television (an independent production company) where he develops scripted comedy and entertainment formats. Career highlights include writing for Will Smith at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Concert; script editing the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace; and orbiting Buzz Aldrin at ITV Studios.

In 2010, he co-wrote the best-selling Top Gear: Alternative Highway Code (BBC Books) and from 2011 to 2017 he served as a non-executive director of the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society.
