What is your favourite thing about Teddy Hall?

Definitely the sense of community. There is always something to get involved in and even in such a short period of time I feel like I’ve become very close with my college friends. People look out for each other and there’s so many cool Teddy Hall specific traditions that make you feel really a part of something.

What do you like about the College’s site and location in Oxford?

Teddy Hall is perfectly situated so that we are almost in the centre of Oxford but are also just a short walk into other areas of Oxford like Cowley. It enables you to explore the city so much more and fit more into your day. The site can also feel like a bubble from Oxford, which can stop the city from becoming overwhelming.

Why did you choose to study your course?

I loved watching the news and trying to understand what is going on around me and why. PPE helps me do just that by giving me different subjects that I can then combine to become much more aware of the thoughts behind the world’s biggest decisions.

What do you enjoy most about studying your subject?

I’d say the variety. With a joint honour like PPE, you can go from doing the most abstract philosophy that will have you questioning everything, to looking at highly mathematical economic models. If I had to do just one subject I think I’d struggle to enjoy it as much.

How have your tutors supported you during your time at Teddy Hall?

Our tutors are great; they are always able to answer your questions and are very accommodating if you want to contact them outside of tutorials. Personally, my tutors have also been good at keeping academia exciting, even the most difficult topics that make you want to give up.

What’s the best thing about living in Hall accommodation?

The dual experience of living away from home but being surrounded by your friends is unbeatable. It gives you incredible independence but there’s always people around you as well. Hall accommodation also means you get to live right by everything you need!

What do you enjoy most about the food at Teddy Hall?

The food at Teddy Hall is both some of the best in Oxford but also not short on quantity. When you have a long day of work and extracurricular activities, there is nothing better than being able to get amazing food right at the Hall that elsewhere you’d need to go to a restaurant for. A good dinner can go a long way towards meeting your essay deadlines.

How has Teddy Hall supported or shaped your extra-curricular interests?

Through being a close-knit college, I’ve been able to see loads of different extracurricular opportunities that I wasn’t even aware I could do. It’s led me to have a go at sports I hadn’t tried like rowing or ice hockey, made even more fun when you do it with mates.

Having received a College award, what impact did it have on your experience?

The feeling of getting an award after a term of hard work makes it all feel worth it. Whilst it’s great to have your name in the Lodge and in the College magazine, it is also just nice to have it feel like people are noticing it when you put the effort in.
