Matt – Fine Art

Why did you choose to study your course?

I knew I wanted to study Fine Art but I did not want to entirely give up academics, I thought that it would be nice to have a more academic course and to be around students studying different subjects.

What do you enjoy most about studying your subject?

It’s almost entirely self-led which I enjoy as I can structure my time around work, extra-curricular activities and recreation. The nature of the course which is taught entirely outside of the College means that I also have a wider group of friends from different colleges.

What do you like about the College’s site and location in Oxford?

Teddy Hall is in the heart of oxford and I enjoy being able to go to my course building, visit friends or go on a night out and not have far to come home.

How have your tutors supported you during your time at Teddy Hall?

My personal tutor has been extremely helpful with pastoral and financial matters, signposting various opportunities and facilities that Teddy has to offer.

What’s the best thing about living in Hall accommodation?

All the rooms are sizeable and in third year I have had an en-suite which has been amazing. The location is also so central and convenient.

What do you enjoy most about the food at Teddy Hall?

I really enjoy the selection of vegan food which Teddy Hall offers. The Hall is very warm and welcoming, and I enjoy taking my friends there for meals and formals.

How has Teddy Hall supported or shaped your extra-curricular interests?

All three years at Teddy I have applied for the college grant which has facilitated paying for extra-curricular interests. In second year, I used it to travel to the Venice biennale which helped develop my art practice.

How has financial support from the College helped you?

In my final year at Teddy Hall, I received the full financial assistance fund which meant that I did not have to work as much during my vacations and I was able to focus more time on studying and preparing for the upcoming terms. This meant a lot since it is quite rare for students at Oxford to need jobs and because of this fund I didn’t feel disadvantaged.
