College Choir
The Choir of St Edmund Hall is a central part of college life, singing regular services in the Chapel and Crypt, and frequently performing across Oxford, the UK and abroad. The Choir is open to students of all faiths and none, and new members are welcome to join at any point in the year. If you are interested, please contact the Director of Music to arrange an audition.
The Choir consists of around twenty-four singers, who may be Choral Scholars, Choral Exhibitioners or Choral Volunteers. Choral Scholars and Exhibitioners are members of the College (there being around eight Choral Scholars), and Choral Volunteers are singers who are not members of the College.
There are also one or two Organ Scholars, who play the organ in Chapel and assist the Director of Music with running the choir.
All members of the choir receive free singing lessons and formal hall on Sundays, and travel with the choir on our regular tours. Currently, the Choir spend a week in Pontigny (France) every September, and we are looking forward to travelling to Brescia (Italy) in December 2026. Organ Scholars also receive free organ lessons.
While new members may join the choir at any point in the year, Choral and Organ Scholarships are offered in the Intercollegiate Choral and Organ Schemes, which take place before UCAS applications.
