FAQs
Exam certificates for students who have already completed some/all qualifications (1 March)
Please submit any existing certification for the qualifications of your offer by 1 March. To find out more about this, see our other FAQs.
Accept UCAS Place (June)
The final UCAS deadline for accepting or declining our offer will be in June (or later), but it would be helpful if you could let us know as soon as possible if you do intend to decline our offer, as we might be able to offer another candidate a place.
Financial Declaration Form (31 July)
By the end of March, the Admissions Officer will email all offer-holders a Financial Declaration Form (FDF). This form needs to be returned to the Admissions Officer via email by 31 July. If you are applying for a loan via the Student Loans Company (SLC) or other funding sources, the application process can take a while, so please start the application process as soon as possible. Once you have received confirmation from the SLC, please email the Admissions Officer your FDF and SLC letters (there will be two letters). You can send photos or scans of the letters/form. FDFs need to be signed by offer-holders, not by teachers/parents/guardians.
English Language Requirements (31 July)
Please send any evidence of meeting the English language requirements to the Admissions Officer by 31 July.
Registration Documents
After results day, we will be in touch regarding the next steps to get you step up and ready to study at St Edmund Hall. This will include setting up a university email and accessing your university card, plus signing our Grey Book (student contract). Please ensure you complete these steps in a timely manner so that you’re ready to start studying when you arrive at Teddy Hall!
If you hold A-levels/IB taken in the previous year, please send legally certified copies to the Admissions Officer.
For certification of qualifications, please ensure that you send a photocopied document with ‘Certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me’ written on the copy, along with a date, signature and, below the signature, the printed name of a staff member from your school.
For US qualifications, students should send their results to the University via the College Board. For all other international qualifications, please contact the Admissions Officer for further guidance.
If your first language is English and you have always been a resident and citizen of a majority English-speaking country recognised by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) you do not need to demonstrate your level of English.
However, most international undergraduates will need to demonstrate that they have a high level of proficiency in English in order to take up a place at Oxford. If you are offered a place, you will need to show the correct level of proficiency by 31 July in the year you receive your offer.
Once you have your completed qualification (TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson PTE), please send the certificate number to the Admissions Officer. If you plan to meet the English language requirement through your GCSEs/iGCSEs, please send scanned copies of the original certificate that have been verified by their school to the Admissions Officer by post or email.
If you believe you qualify for a waiver of the English language requirements, please complete this form and return to the Admissions Officer via email.
You can find out more about visas and the English language requirements via the University’s guidance here.
We will send out more information about Freshers’ Week shortly after A-level results have been published in August, and information will be made available via the Freshers’ Registration Portal. By default we will use the email address provided on your UCAS form to contact you about this. Please contact the Admissions Officer if you need to change your email address.
You will need to budget for accommodation, food, clothes, entertainment and other costs. The good news is that life in Oxford can be cheaper than in many other university cities if you plan carefully.
The city centre is compact and you will rarely need to use public transport. The collegiate system means that accommodation and food costs are lower than in many other universities. St Edmund Hall charges rent per term instead of per month, so you will not have to waste money on accommodation during the holidays when you are not here.
The University also offers generous non-repayable bursaries to help with living costs, such as the Crankstart Scholarship and Oxford Bursary. Bursaries are available on a household income-dependent sliding scale. St Edmund Hall also offers a wide variety of grants to fund academic materials, extra-curriculars and more. You’ll be able to get in touch with us if you’re worried about finances whilst at university.
Find out more about finances at St Edmund Hall at our webpage here.
Accommodation is allocated automatically for undergraduates so you don’t need to do anything about this at this stage. Once all students’ places are confirmed in August we’ll send out our Freshers’ Mailing which will have all the information you need. You can read about undergraduate accommodation at the college here.
